Our Journey to Puttaviramma Special School

It doesn't take a lot to give a little

Little Goodwill has unique projects aimed at providing joy to children around the world. These projects constitute small acts of giving. You don’t have to completely change someone’s life to make it better. Because of the nature of our projects, it is possible it is possible to execute multiple at the same time. That is what we did at the Puttaveeramma Special School in Mysuru. With the help of our sponsors M.V. Sowbhagya and ___________, we were able to set up executions for both Dearest Dessert and Be a Sport.
Puttaveeramma Special School is a girls school for the audibly impaired. The staff and students conduct all of their daily business in sign language, and many students are residents in the school’s hostel. We met with the staff of the school to find out what treats we could bring while being mindful of the students. Some of the girls were very young, so we had to make sure not to bring anything that might upset their stomachs. With this in mind, we embarked on assembling a simple combination of cake and chocolate for the girls. All seventy of the students in the school assembled in a hall as we assembled and passed out the plates.
In addition to our execution of Dearest Dessert, we were also able to carry out Be A Sport. This school had a special request that we aimed to fulfill: chess. Thanks to our amazing sponsors we were able to provide this school with a chess set, but much more importantly, we were also able to buy a new Carom board. Carom is a very popular game in India, and requires a special board, a special powder to make the board smooth, pawns, and a striker. We were able to get all of this equipment brand new for the school. Little Goodwill does projects like this to spread the fun of playing, something that every child should be able to do to the fullest.

Every time I am able to execute a Little Goodwill Project I get new feelings of happiness, but today I truly felt proud. Proud of what we had done, it hit me that we are building a foundation for many more future projects. We are building a foundation for more high school students to share the happiness of giving. It might sound cliche, but its true. The happiest moment of my life was a handshake. The handshake I was given on my very first Little Goodwill Project. That happiness does not diminish. Every project I do reminds me that the chance to give is the greatest gift you can get.
